I loved the concept of this book - it is a cosy little fantasy about a tiny coffee shop in Japan that offers customers the ability to travel back in time. There are a series of rules, and they must drink the coffee before it gets cold in order to return to the present, they can only travel back to a time they were previously in the cafe, and they must stay seated in a particular chair. Also, no matter what happens in the past, nothing in the present will change. The book consists of four intertwined stories about the staff and customers.
Unfortunately, the writing really didn’t appeal to me at all, I think when it was translated from Japanese to English, it lost some of the original charm. I found it really repetitive, quite unbearable to read at some points, and hard to like or relate to any of the characters. It is a shame because I did enjoy the story and the setting, but I found the writing really put me off:(
What did you guys think? Has anyone had other similar experiences with translated books?
As for how dyslexia friendly it is, I found it to be quite an easy and short book to read, although it did take me a while to learn all the names!
