This book is a Chinese legend retelling, and the first book in the Celestial Kingdom duology. The Moon Goddess gained her immortality in a way that angered other immortals, and was banished from them. Her daughter (the main character of this series) was raised in secret, but one day when her magic is detected she has to flee. She tries to make a life for herself in the Celestial Kingdom and ends up excelling in archery, but must keep her identity a secret.

The book has a strong female lead, and has lots of romance and fighting. It’s written in the first person past tense, and I found it surprisingly to be not too challenging to read (sometimes I find fantasies so hard to follow). I feel like the author did a really good job of describing things, and whilst reading I felt like I was watching a film!
