Northanger Abbey is my favourite book I have read so far by Jane Austen. This book is about imagination, naivety, and misjudgement, and we see the world through the eyes of a young innocent girl called Catherine, who is obsessed with gothic novels. This heavily impacts the way she interprets events and peoples actions, and Austen uses gothic literary conventions (which were so popular at the time of writing) in a satirical way. To me this felt like much more than just a romance, it was about growing up and maturing, and learning lessons.
Plus, the love interest is by far my favourite out of Austen's books, I think he’s the best.
How dyslexic-friendly is it?
I tend to find older books harder to understand, and so I did struggle a bit with the writing style, but this was a shorter book and I got into it after a while. If you haven’t read any Austen yet but would like to, this would be a good book to start with because it is the shortest of her major novels.
