This is one of those books that I feel like everyone should try to read. The book is about two Syrian refugees who arrive in the UK, and the story of their life before things got bad and their journey to safety. It’s beautifully written, deeply moving and shocking and yet somehow filled with hope and tenderness despite the horrific and heartbreaking things the characters endure.
The book is written as a dual timeline, with alternating chapters switching from the present time (written in the first/second person present tense), and the flashback chapters written in first person past tense. The language and writing style wasn’t too challenging, and I didn’t think that there were too many characters to remember the names of.
