Absolutely blown away by this book, I read it over 6 months ago but continue to think about it a lot. Yes it did break my heart but it’s such a beautiful, important and captivating book I will continue to recommend it to everyone.

The book is written from the perspective of death, who narrates the full story. Death occasionally comes into contact with certain people who experience so much loss that they cannot believe they continue living This book is about one of those people - a young girl, the ‘book thief’ who he encounters three times. The story is set in Nazi Germany before and during the war, and despite being about pretty difficult and upsetting topics, there are so many moments of beauty, tenderness and humour.
