This book was the perfect scary Halloween ghost/horror story! It is set in the remote Yorkshire Moors in the 1600s, and it is about sheep farmers who live in a place that has a dark history. If you enjoyed The Silent Companions, you will probably enjoy this too, they share many similarities! This book is genuinely scary, and is very dark, gruesome and disturbing at times. Some themes in the book include superstition, accusations of witchcraft, gender roles, and religion. I know that the author did a lot of research to really understand sheep farming in that era and I really appreciate historical accuracy in a book!

How dyslexia-friendly is it?

The book was very easy to read and although it scared me I found I couldn’t put it down, I had to find out what was happening! There were some words I had to look up to understand what they meant but that is expected with historical fiction. I created a map for this book from the descriptions in it (below), and the author kindly reposted it on her Instagram page!
