This is a wholesome, cosy & clever murder mystery, in an unusual setting -an old persons care home! The elderly protagonists are so well developed, believable, flawed and loveable characters who have so much life experience.
Although this is a crime novel, there are some really beautiful tender raw moments (it is set in a care/nursing home where death is all too common), and deals with many deep & sensitive topics surrounding life and death, guilt and morality.
There are lots of twists and unexpected events within the book. I have heard that some people found the start to be a bit slow, but I think it has some fantastic perspectives and monologues from the main characters which show how sharp and witty and interesting elderly people are, in a very non-patronising way.
How dyslexia-friendly is it?
I thought there were quite a lot of characters names to remember, and I did get a little bit lost sometimes as the book has many character perspectives so I had to go back and remind myself who is who. But the actual writing style was engaging and easy to follow and understand.
